The Grand Ballon, at an altitude of 1,424 metres, is the highest peak in the Vosges mountains. On a clear day, the view stretches across the Black Forest, the Jura, the Alps (with Mont Blanc visible) and the Alsace plain. The white radome crowning the summit has become an iconic landmark.

Hiking and heritage

The Ridge Trail (GR5) passes through the summit, making it perfect for a day’s hike. At the summit, the Diables Bleus monument pays tribute to the Alpine hunters. The famous, scenic Route des Crêtes runs through the massif.
