A masterpiece of Alsatian Romanesque art
The Church of Saint-Léger in Guebwiller is one of the finest examples of late Romanesque architecture in Alsace. Built between 1182 and 1230, it is notable for its impressive west façade, featuring a rose window, three carved portals and two side towers.
The interior, whilst more understated, is well worth a visit for its finely carved capitals and its remarkable acoustics during the Festival’s concerts.
Our tips for your visit
Visit the church in the late morning to enjoy the light streaming through the stained-glass windows. Allow 30 minutes for the visit. If you’re a music lover, check out the programme for the Colmar International Music Festival and ‘Musique au cœur du Florival’, which organise concerts in this church.
